Up to 8.37pm tonight, we'have had the following Thursday page views on Brigg Blog (by country):
United Kingdom 167
Cyprus 7
Netherlands 5
Ireland 3
South Korea 3
Canada 2
Nigeria 1
Puerto Rico 1
Portugal 1
Saudi Arabia 1
I see the guy from Puerto Rico is still about - did he get my message about him sending us some coffee?
ReplyDeleteSome only slightly related info:
On average, historically villages in England are 9 miles apart (about 15km) - with hamlets equally distanced between such.
This average distance did not emerge haphazardly. It was related to how far one could drive cattle in one day - making a lunch-break at a small settlement.
The time/distance equation was affected by the geography - hills - rivers, for example, slowed progress, so villages may have been closer to compensate.
In Holland, the land tends to be uniformly flat and if one checks historica maps, the distribution of villages/hamlets form a prounounced uniform grid.
Obviously, the whole historical equation is profoundly upset by 'new' transport network systems - canals, rail and road - but the basic distribution fabric remains tracable.
(Many distances and areas are related to farming.
I old fashioned acre is the area of average farmland, that could be ploughed by an average plough horse in a day.
A furlong is the average length on average soil that the average horse could pull a plough before needing rest and refreshment.)
Europe =
So the day's source views =
5 x Europe
North America = 1,
Asia = 2,
Africa = 1,
Carribean = 1
I would not be surprisrised (too many fingers) if Puerto Rico becomes the next USA state. It already recognises the USA president as the island's president. Watch this space.
(Originally Spanish - but New York (named by the English) was originally called New Amsterdam (Dutch) and California was Spanish.
