Football-loving town councillors who turned out for last night's policy committee meeting in the Angel Suite, rather than stay at home to watch coverage of the England v Egypt international, had to endure the mental torture of a large TV in the corner of their meeting room.
The telly screen was switched on when councillors arrived in the Lounge for their debates, but someone quickly unplugged it!
It was noted that some councillors well-known for taking a keen interest in sport tendered their apologies (with reasons) and were unable to attend.
To make matters worse for the rest of us last night, the 3Bs Project meeting held in the Lounge 'ran over' which meant the policy committee started its deliberations almost 20 minutes late.
The only bright spot for our football-loving civic leaders was that while they were meeting in the Angel, England were playing poorly and 1-0 down. The best football for armchair fans came once those attending last night's meeting had got home to their firesides.
A new addition to the Lounge, the TV set, we gather, is intended for viewing DVDs (during meetings, etc), and has been kindly donated by an unidentified benefactor.
Is someone going to explain the off-side rule to councillors?
ReplyDeletePlanning ahead - it looks like Brigg will come to a halt during the World Cup and the 2012 Olympics.
Better start planning now as councillors don't want to be deprived of seeing Stevie Gerrard scoring his 3rd goal against Brazil, or of a British hope for a Gold in the Women's 100m, while councillors discuss the dour state of dog fouling bins!!
The pressures of life at the top, but they are only human!!
I wonder what NLC will do...? I could imagine the Council Chamber being devoid of NLC councillors while important decisions are being discussed. Could be a good time to present a proposal to abolish Council Tax!!
I wonder if Nige the Bike knows whether NLC has made any strategic planning for such events - the Olympics are only 18 months away!!
Thought it was 2011!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Olympics are obviously 2 and half years away!!
