Brigg Town Cricket Club held its AGM at Scanlon's, on Bridge Street, which unfortunately I didn't manage to attend.
However, we've now been brought up to speed: All-rounder Dylan Hildreth (pictured) is the new chairman, with veteran batsman Dave Willey his vice-chairman; Lee Fielden continues as secretary; Jack Richards is the new treasurer.
The club will continue to offer competitive sport to youngsters of various age groups, plus running Saturday men's teams in the Lincolnshire League and the East Yorkshire Alliance, and a Sunday team in the North Lindsey competition.
Ken's definition of cricket: A summertime activity that involves two gangs in which one of the band of men, some standing in gullies, encircle the other clique who run in a chain between stumps after hitting an object with bits of wood.
ReplyDeleteThese antics are controlled by some different men who play with marbles and wave their arms about.
This activity is repeated for several hours, often without a conclusive outcome.
Ken's extended defintion of cricket:
ReplyDeleteA summertime activity that involves two gangs of men,in which one of the band with some individuals standing in gullies and others in silly positions encircle the other clique. The men in this latter group put things down their trousers and wear pads in case they have an unfortunate accident in the field. They run in alternating pairs in a chain between ash stumps often attempting to hit somebody elses googlies, without be caught, with bits of wood that have been covered in oil. Sometimes they can be 'in', sometimes 'out', even when their friends are 'in', or 'not in yet' when waiting to be 'in' to be 'out' or being 'not out' when their friends are 'out' and the opposition are 'in' to be forced 'out' by men in white clothes who can attack the others with their googlies.
These antics are controlled by some different men who play with their marbles in their pockets and wave their arms about and can sometimes be seen wearing other people's clothes. One of these was a Dickie Bird with a Yorkshire accent.
Overall, such activities are often repeated over several hours and even days, often without a conclusive outcome.
