There's a major road closure in Brigg this weekend, drivers should note.
The A1084 will be shut at the railway level crossing where Bigby Road meets Bigby High Road between 9pm today (Saturday, March 14) and 2pm tomorrow (Sunday, March 15).
This is necessary because Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd will be decommissioning the traditional wooden gates.
They will be replaced by a new barrier version over the next three weekends.
Also note future road closures at the same location...
March 21 and 22: Barrier preparation and testing will be undertaken between 9pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.
March 28 and 29: Commissioning of the new crossing between 9pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.
Below are some interesting and unusual views of the level crossing taken from the footbridge on Brigg railway station. They show a Sheffield-bound Saturday-only passenger train. Note the single line section of track beyond the crossing, looking towards Kettleby. Much of the Brigg line is now single track but there's a 'double loop' at Brigg.
