Plans to concentrate more services to the public within Brigg town centre's Angel building and create a new 'community hub' have now been approved, freeing up land elsewhere to provide additional affordable housing and new properties suitable for older people.
North Lincolnshire Council held public consultation engagement sessions in the Angel Suite during October 2019 about these proposal, with councillors and staff in attendance to answer local residents' questions and note their suggestions.
Brigg Blog can reveal that the unitary authority has now approved the scheme, although the timescale for the various changes has yet to be announced.
The council will be relocating Brigg Youth Centre from Grammar School Road and selling the centre's site to provide new and affordable housing.
Brigg Town Council will vacant the Angel Suite and move elsewhere within the building, while the role of the Recreation Ground's community room at the end of the changing room block will be expanded.
The Brigg Community Centre, off Horstead Avenue, will move to the Angel, pictured above, with the vacated site earmarked to provide new homes for those of more senior years.
A council director's detailed report explains: "The proposal for Brigg is to invest in the Angel site, creating a community hub with improved accessibility and functionality, providing an integrated point of service for universal and targeted functions.
"It will enhance the offer around wellbeing, working with Ancholme Leisure Centre.
"The proposal includes space that has been occupied by Brigg Town Council, with them occupying new space within the community hub.
"Facilities at Brigg Recreation Ground will be enhanced to support the universal and targeted offer for young people, together with Brigg Children’s Centre continuing to provide space for positive activities for young people.
"The Brigg Community Wellbeing Hub site will be remodelled to meet the priority need for older residents' housing, with the Brigg Youth Centre site marketed for small-scale affordable housing."
The council says its proposals "will enable more community use of spaces, helping communities to be more resilient and to flourish."
It adds that the consultation in Brigg confirmed "broad support for the proposals" and that "suggestions to make the proposals even better have been factored into the proposals wherever appropriate and feasible."
Two North Lincolnshire Council cabinet members approved this scheme.
The decision, made on December 31, came from Brigg & Wolds' Coun Carl Sherwood - Cabinet Member for Environment & Wellbeing, and Axholme South's Coun David Rose - Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Culture, Adults & Health.
Another community hub in Crowle town centre is to be created to serve the Axholme North Ward.

We also need some decent job opportunities...not just retail and logistuc, but some high tech/professional openings...
There's a new Industrial estate being built on the Sugar Factory's old tailing ponds.
I wish they'd put in another M180 on-ramp on Brigg Northeast, to take traffic off the roads and bridge in town.
