The Brigg & District Veterans' Association held its Second Annual Christmas Dinner at the town's Britannia Inn on Saturday afternoon (December 7).
About 25 members and guests attended the event.
Ken Harrison, of Brigg Matters magazine, has kindly shared these pictures he took showing people enjoying the event at the Wrawby Street pub. And he has shared a few memories of rations served up to members of Her Majesty's Forces (see below)...
Guest enjoyed tasty meals served up at the Britannia, but members of the forces sometimes had to tuck into Compo, explains photographer Ken, who is an ex-serviceman.,
He tells Brigg Blog: "Compo = Composition Rations...….packed in boxes for 1 man for 5 days, or 5 men for 1 day......had various menus to suit climate from chicken supreme, beef curry to syrup pud and custard, powdered egg to tinned sausages and boiled fruit sweets.
It even contained toilet paper, matches and water purifying tablets.
"All rations were opened by a marvellous little folding tin-opener, which everyone added as an accessory to their key-ring for future use.
"Known and experienced by all veterans," Ken says of Compo. "My favourite - oat-meal blocks......even though they were (in my day) packed during WW2."
