COULD BRIGG HAVE AN HISTORIC CHRISTMAS MARKET TO TURN BACK TIME?

Travelling historical market comes to Normanby Hall for Christmas

Step back in time this Christmas as Normanby Hall Country Park is set to welcome the Travelling Christmas Historical Market for the first time.
The market will be open from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 December offering a unique experience for visitors in the grounds of the stunning 300 acre country park.
Traders dressed in authentic historical clothing will be selling handmade goods including leatherwork, jewellery, baskets, candles and traditional food and drinks.
With an historical atmosphere, handmade bespoke gifts and live music and entertainment, visitors are guaranteed to get in the festive spirit.
Opening times:

• Friday 13 December – 6.30pm to 9pm
• Saturday 14 December – 10am to 9pm
• Sunday 15 December – 10am to 4pm

Stalls appearing include:

• The Unfound Door – historic jewellers catering for a wide spectrum of periods and influences in sterling silver and 9ct gold, with precious and semi-precious stones. A mixture of handmade and ethically sourced items are always available.
• Mythicarium – a fine artist specialising in equines and British mythology. Their subject matter extends to medieval era fauna, legends, royalty and horses.
• Cowley’s Fine Foods – purveyors of tasty treats and unique snacks both vegan and meat, all handmade in the heart of South Wales.
• A Piece of History – manufacturers and suppliers of traditional archery equipment. Find them at historical events in the UK and Europe.
• Roo the Leathercarver – hand-carved leather goods, commissions and repairs.
• Visitors will have to pay for car parking or annual membership holders should display their pass.

Martin Cowley, organiser of the Travelling Historical Christmas Market, said: “Our members have a real passion for preserving the past, with unique gifts that you won’t find on the high street. I was raised in Winterton so I’m really looking forward to returning to the beautiful Normanby Hall with the Travelling Historical Christmas Market.”
The Travelling Christmas Historical Market coincides with the popular Christmas Market at Normanby Hall on Sunday 15 December that features more than 70 stalls selling great local crafts and produce.

NF adds: Our picture shows how Brigg Market Place looked in the 1830s when the Buttercross and the County Bridge were relatively new additions. Kirsty's reference to traders being dressed in authentic period clothing at Normanby's Historical Market could recapture this era in Brigg. Perhaps officials of the Brigg Town Business Partnership might consider our suggestion and work in conjunction with Martin Cowley and North Lincolnshire Council to stage something similar here in the run up to Christmas 2020 or even 2021. If Normanby's December 13/14/15 dates were replicated in Brigg the festive lights would already be on, adding to the festive atmosphere. In terms of buildings, Brigg today is still similar to how it was in the 19th century.
