A Brigg school is to be officially opened.
The ceremony will take place at The Vale Academy, off Atherton Way, at 10am on Tuesday, December 11.
Among those in attendance will be the Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Coun John Briggs, from Crowle, who recently visited the town as a guest at the Christmas lights ceremony in the Market Place.
The Vale Academy buildings have replaced those dating back to the 1950s that stood on Grammar School Road and Redcombe Lane.
They were originally constructed to provide secondary modern education, being named Westmoor and Glanford.
Glanford catered for Brigg children, while Westmoor provided education for those from nearby villages.
From the mid-1970s, when the 11-plus examination was phased out, they combined to become the Vale of Ancholme School.
Coun Briggs will also be in Brigg on Wednesday, December 12 for the Brigg Festival of Trees and Wreaths preview evening at St John's Church, Bigby Street (6pm).

To clarify...while the local education authority phased out 11+ selection in 1976, Comprehensive schools had been introduced in some areas of the UK since the mid to late 50s. Meanwhile, there still remain about 160 grammar schools in the UK in such authorities as Lincolnshire and Kent.
Selection was introduced by the 1944 Education Act under the Tripartied System...the Act proposed 3 types of secondary schools...grammar, technical high and modern...but very few authorities created technical high school (designed for those with a technological/scientific bent)..so 11+ became a pass/fail process.
Until the 1970s Grammar schools prioritised academic subjects, which included Latin and/or Greek..languages that were demanded as a prerequisite to many traditional universities.
The concept and practises of Comprehensive schools were based upon the 1930s Village Community Colleges in rural Cambridgeshire ( and Leicestershire), which recognised that many rural-based children just couldn't afford and/or were logistically able to travel to the grammar and high school located in Cambridge.
