VETERANS ATTEND BRIGG FIRE STATION CEREMONY

  

Brigg fire station, beside the A18, has been refurbished and extended  in recent months - a topic recorded over the months since early 2016 by Brigg Blog.
To mark this very welcome investment by the Humberside Fire & Rescue Service in our town's retained station, an official ceremony has now been held.
VIP guests included Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy, North Lincolnshire Council leader Baroness Liz Redfern and the three Brigg & Wolds councillors - Coun Rob Waltham, Coun Carl Sherwood and Coun Nigel Sherwood; plus Humberside's Chief Fire Officer, Dene Sanders.
However, there were other local VIPs from Brigg who have responded to hundreds of call-out  incidents in the area over many, many years.
There to take a look at Brigg's new station was Hughie Markham, now aged 97, who served with Brigg fire service for many years until retiring in the late 1970s. 
Another veteran in attendance was former Brigg fire chief John Chudley.
Meanwhile, the still-serving Dave Riggall received a congratulatory cake from Chief Fire Officer Sanders, to celebrate 30 years' service.

Two pictures of the old Brigg fire station, on Wrawby Street, where Hughie Markham served. It was replaced in the late 1970s by the current facility. This part of the old station has now been turned over to retail and is occupied by the Cups & Cones ice cream parlour.
