BRIGG FOLK 'NEW TO RACING' WELCOME ON SUNDAY

Top class racehorses are on their way to Market Rasen for the racecourse’s ‘New to Racing’ day on Sunday.
The feature contest is the £25,000 BDN Construction Limited Dam Buster Chase which has attracted high class runners like 2013 Cheltenham Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Johns Spirit, 2015 Market Rasen Betfred Summer Plate hero Brave Spartacus and three-time Market Rasen winner Bar De Ligne.
There is also the Victor Lucas Memorial Chase, run in tribute to the man who oversaw the management and development of the racecourse in the post-war years.
To add to the occasion, an array of activities and attractions is being laid on with families and first-time visitors in mind.
Spectators will be able to:
  • go behind the scenes on tours of the inner sanctum of the Weighing Room, see fences close up and tour the parade ring;
  • find out what it’s like to be a jockey by riding an Equicizer and trying on jockey silks;
  • go to the start of one of the races;
  • talk to the experts – the racehorse owners, trainers, jockey and vets;
  • view a farrier demonstration;
  • watch a parade of retired racehorses who now have new careers;
  • find out about how to place a bet from Tote experts;
  • take part in the BIG Jigsaw Challenge.

Before racing starts at 2.10pm, the popular Punters’ Panel led by race-day presenter Mike Vince will guide visitors through the day’s horse racing and – perhaps be able to - pinpoint some winners.
The racecourse opens on Sunday, 15th May at 12.10pm, two hours before the first race. Tickets are from just £7.20 in advance. Tickets for all meetings can be purchased in advance at a discount at http://marketrasen.thejockeyclub.co.uk or through the ticket line on 0344 579 3009. Accompanied children aged under 18 are admitted free of charge.
Market Rasen Racecourse is staging 22 jump racing meetings in 2016 and is a leading conference and events centre in the East Midlands.
