LATEST: NEW YEAR CALL TO GET MORE PASSENGER TRAINS CALLING AT BRIGG RAILWAY STATION

JANUARY 2: An important Parliamentary committee is being asked to put pressure on Network Rail to set the wheels in motion for additional passenger trains to be introduced along the Brigg line.
Campaigning group The Friends Of The Brigg & Lincoln Lines has written to Martin Vickers, saying: "As the MP for Cleethorpes you, of course, will want people to come to the area to spend money.
"Sadly, again, Network Rail and the signal box opening times on the Brigg Line are at present stopping Northern Rail running any Bank Holiday Monday service from Sheffield Midland to Cleethorpes via Brigg or extending the Retford service to Gainsborough Central, thus giving the station a morning and evening peak weekday service."
The rail group is suggesting that, at the next Transport Select Committee Mr Vickers attends, Network Rail "are asked some serious questions about signal box opening times and why they are not working with the train operation company (Northern) to abolish the non-opening of the Brigg Line between 0700 and 1300 on a Monday to Friday."
Gainsborough Central, Kirton Lindsey and Brigg have not had a weekday passenger service since  October 1, 1993.
N.F. ADDS - JANUARY  3: We now gather Martin Vickers MP is to write to a director of Network Rail and pursue the matter on  behalf of The Friends group. Mr Vickers wants to see as many people as possible using the railway to Cleethorpes.

  1. It's a chicken and egg scenario, but I would like to see the construction of a siding and station directly serving Humberside Airport.
Super officials will argue that there are not enough passengers to warrant such expenditure....although there is a strong argument that one should have the egg first and watch it hatch...
Robin Hood airport is having a major direct road from Junction 3 on the M18...opening in the near future...
Conveniently situated, Brigg could become a significant overnight stop-over for flight passengers......BUT finding a decent hotel in Brigg is a major concern.!!!
